Dr. Marcus Gillespie boasts a distinguished career that culminated in his retirement as Associate Dean and Associate Professor from Sam Houston State University in 2021.
Throughout his tenure, he notably led the Department of Environmental and Geosciences at Sam Houston State University, and prior to that, he chaired the Department of Geography and Geology at Northwest Missouri State University. His academic journey is marked by a Ph.D. in Geography from Texas A&M University and a Master’s degree in Geography from the University of Wyoming, complemented by Bachelor’s degrees in both Earth Science Education and Psychology from Sam Houston State University.
Dr. Gillespie’s scholarly focus has primarily been on earth science and geomorphology, areas in which he has extensively taught courses, including weather and climate, climatology, conservation of natural resources, and Quaternary soil science.
His teaching career spans from secondary education, where he taught astronomy, biology, life science, physics, and earth science across grades 7 through 12, to higher education, imparting his knowledge at the university level.
This broad spectrum of experience in various scientific disciplines showcases his adept ability to integrate and communicate complex scientific concepts, making him uniquely qualified to address interdisciplinary topics.
